Mr. Weaver, I enjoyed reading your story immensely. I recently began researching my late grandfather's Army service and your story surfaced from an internet search for his unit, the 925th AAA AW Bn. My grandfather was probably on his way home by the time you arrived in the Philippines (he was discharged in mid-Dec '45), but you almost certainly served under the same sergeant that he did. A photo of my grandfather and some of his buddies, taken on Guadalcanal, appeared in National Geographic during the later war years, and the photo included their unit's adopted dog, Shit-head. Apparently the dog made the journey from Guadalcanal to Leyte along with your sergeant! Thank you for taking the time to put your story in words, and thank you for your service.

Great job, Ken. I enjoyed every sentence, every paragraph. A lot of memories came back to life. I'm pleased that your story is now published. I think it should be sent to other places, including military magazines. I will forward a copy to Sandy and Carol Weaver. If you do not have objections, I will send to others like Jim Weaver. Please advise. Love. Dick
