Shoppers Needed: Help Support a Great Cause!

Calling all shoppers! V-Day UHCL is having a garage sale Sept. 17 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. to help support the 2012 production of “The Vagina Monologues.”

In addition to shopping, students, faculty and community members can also support the cause by donating gently used items to the IISS office by Sept. 15. Items needed include  furniture, clothes, books, toys, small appliances, home décor, dishes/glassware and tools.

“The Vagina Monologues” is a play that is aimed at raising funding and creating awareness about violence against women and girls.

“Not only does the play raise eyebrows and open dialogues, but it also raises funds for organizations working endlessly to provide protection and recovery services for women and girls in need,” said Julie Smith, head of the V-Day Campaign’s planning committee. “By hosting the play on campus, we are connecting UHCL to an international movement to end violence while giving back to women close to home as well.”

Ninety percent of the profits from the play are donated to Bay Area Turning Point, a local charity, while 10 percent goes to the V-Day Campaign. Ultimately, The V-day Campaign hopes to raise $10,000 to support their charities as well as the production costs for “The Vagina Monologues.”
