UHCL’s New Branding Campaign

How do students hear about the University of Houston-Clear Lake? If I recall correctly, I heard about the university from a family friend who was working on her teaching degree at UHCL around the time I was outlining my college plans.

Chances are that many people who are not already knowledgeable about UHCL will be within the near future.

UHCL recently launched a new branding campaign. Appearing throughout the Bay Area and online, the school will be promoted through billboards, mall signs at Baybrook Mall, online advertisements, and Facebook advertisements. Also, the Pearland Town Center will have building wraps, pole signs, and a kiosk with promotional material.

I felt very proud when I read the email informing UHCL students about the new branding campaign. I graduate in May, so to know that more potential students will be reached and admissions will reach higher numbers than before is rewarding. I love UHCL and have genuinely enjoyed the past two years I have spent here. I feel like some people underestimate UHCL and what it offers. Especially the younger generation, for whom moving out and experiencing college life by living in a dorm and going to football games is one of the most important factors when choosing which college or university to attend. Maybe any underestimation of UHCL comes from the fact that the university has always been a two-year institution offering undergraduate classes to earn a bachelors degree and graduate classes to earn a masters degree. Well, as a lot of us are well aware, UHCL was recently approved to implement freshmen and sophomore level courses. The first freshmen class is scheduled to arrive fall 2014.

I think the choice to hire a new advertising agency to create a new marketing campaign for UHCL came at the perfect time. Many people in the community might not be aware of the fact that the university will begin offering lower-level classes in the near future, so through the new promotional efforts, that can be presented to the community.

UHCL has high-quality professors and curriculum. While working on my bachelors I was exposed to many real world experiences that I probably never would have practiced had I not attended UHCL. From working with a tight deadline to completing multiple group projects, as I get ready to move on from college and into a “big girl” job I am comfortable and confident that the education I earned at UHCL will prepare me for what the corporate world has to offer.

The growth UHCL has experienced even in the short (but long) two years I have been a student has been really gratifying to witness. Just as I heard about UHCL from a family friend, hopefully I can be the person to inform a prospective student about this awesome school one day.
