Come out and see one of UHCL’s largest events: Cultural Extravaganza

Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, reciting poetry and acting out a skit are just a few of the different talents that will be showcased during UHCL’s 2014 Cultural Extravaganza.

UHCL’s annual Cultural Extravaganza will take place Saturday, Mar. 22, in the Bayou Theater at 7 p.m.

This year, a total of 30 different groups and solo performers have signed up to perform; at the end of the show there will be 29 countries represented during a culture walk finale.

UHCL’s Cultural Extravaganza is a student-run event where students volunteer to showcase their culture. It is a way to bring together the UHCL community by celebrating its different cultural backgrounds.

UHCL has a large international and intercultural student body. The students of UHCL are proud of their different cultures. This event gives students a way to be able to share their unique cultural talents and spread cultural awareness throughout the UHCL staff, faculty, students and their families.

A majority of the students at UHCL are commuter students who go to work, attend class and then go back home.  As a community, students do not always take the time out to get to know one another. Students might talk amongst each other during class to study or discuss the upcoming tests, but often find it difficult to take time outside the classroom to get to know each other personally.

This event allows students to get to see another side of their classmates. It allows the people of UHCL and their families to sit back and admire the different cultures of their community — the different cultures that they interact with every day.

UHCL Cultural Extravaganza is free to the entire UHCL community. Following the event, there will be a food reception that will include a variety of cultural dishes. For more information regarding the event, contact Nhee Vang at vang@uhcl.edu.
