UHCL HAWK LAUNCH

University of Houston-Clear Lake welcomed some of its incoming freshman and sophomore students at a special Hawk Launch before the official start of the fall semester. An upper-level university for 40 years that only offered classes to students at the junior, senior and graduate level, UH-Clear Lake gained approval from the state legislature in 2011 to add freshman and sophomore students with the first classes for these students beginning Aug. 25. After being greeted by administrators, students engaged in leadership development exercises and discussed transitioning aspects of going to college, which included creating a “plan of action,” before participating in some UHCL Hawk games including dodge ball and color wars. Pictured are few of the freshman and sophomore students – members of the winning dodge ball “green” team – with some current UHCL student leaders.
