New parking policy means changes for student orgs and campus events

A change in parking regulations has translated to changes for how student organizations and visitors will be able to park on campus.

Tokens for the parking kiosk
Prior to the parking regulation changes, student organizations could request free tokens for visitors to on-campus events.

Previously, organizations received free tokens based on the size and participation of the organizations. Now organizations will be required to buy promotional codes for guests to receive permits.

“Each student organization would get up to thirty free tokens per semester per org on a case by case basis,” said Patrick Cardenas, coordinator for Student Life. “Now we’re sitting on tokens that do not work.”

Formerly, visitors parking on campus during the weekend did not have to pay for parking. Now visitors and organizations have to pay for parking for events held on Saturdays and Sundays.

“There will be a discounted break for student orgs on weekends,” Means said. “We will look at the event and work with the group on case by case basis.”

Visitors will have to pay five dollars to purchase a temporary permit during the weekdays and weekends regardless of how long they are on campus.

“We will not charge for weekend parking without telling you,” Means said. “That won’t be for another three weeks or so.”

Kiosk Instructions

Yearly and semester parking permits must be purchased online. The Police Department/Parking Management Department closed the window outside their office, so parking permit interactions are done electronically on the website. For temporary and lost permits, there is a kiosk located in the parking lot outside the Delta building that sells daily temporary permits. The charge is five dollars for one day of parking to avoid a parking fine.
