Spoilers Ahead

Help me Abraham, you’re my only hope. Hope seems to be the main theme of this episode. Hope is the only thing that the survivors have left in this apocalyptic world; get Eugene to D.C. to find the cure.

This episode focused on the D.C. troop, specifically Abraham and Eugene. Throughout the episode, there is a series of flashbacks that unravel Abraham’s unfortunate past. Sergeant Abraham Ford escaped the zombie apocalypse with his wife and children, but they couldn’t handle seeing daddy do his job, which is killing people. It is inferred that they cannot take his cruelty and run away, which leads to their ultimate death. Abraham can’t take this and is about to bite the bullet when poor, old Eugene stumbles upon him, quite literally. He gives him hope to find a cure in D.C.

Well, thanks a lot Eugene, because you’re a big, fat liar. Eugene lied to the entire group just to save his own hide. He does seem smart, but he acted so cowardly, only a select few will be able to forgive him. Abraham is not one of those people. He gives him such a hard beat down that the audience doesn’t even know if he is alive at the end of the episode. It seems that all hope is lost yet again for Abraham too, talk about a circle ending.

Let’s talk about Eugene for a second; we know he isn’t a scientist, but he’s pretty smart. His mullet is very mysterious, and he is very protective of it. Last season, he attempted to shoot a gun and failed so epically that he destroyed the tank. We thought, “Oh, that’s Eugene!” but no, he did it on purpose. This season, he didn’t want to go with Abraham, he wanted to stay with Rick & Co. This foreshadowing should have led us to believe that he didn’t have the cure in D.C. We learn he is a creep, who enjoys watching others have sex. He wasted all of the water from the fire truck on killing walkers –quite a good make-up effect – when they could have used a simple knife to the brain. Yes, this was very redeeming since he did save the group, but he only got his first kill this episode, about ten minutes earlier. Also, he put crushed glass in the short bus that the group decided to travel in, which is why they had to stop anyway; what the heck Eugene?! So now, he has tried to kill his companions, twice. I understand Abraham’s pain.

Now the ultimate questions; will the D.C. troop go forward to Washington D.C. or will they turn back to Rick & Co.? Or will they go off on their own? Well, first we have to figure out if Abraham and Eugene are alive, then we can make our assumptions. I mean, they do have a Glenn and a Maggie up their sleeve, they wouldn’t be too shabby on their own. But to see the group reunite again, and possibly a Maggie/Beth reunion would be very heartfelt too. All we can do, is hope for the best.
