UHCLDwayne Busby_NewsReleaseBuilding relationships and strengthening endowments are among the goals of University of Houston-Clear Lake Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations Dwayne Busy, the newest addition to the university’s Office of University Advancement team. Busby brings strength and proven success to UH-Clear Lake with 10 years of experience in university fundraising, development and management.

Busby comes to UHCL with experience in working with alumni and securing major gifts for three universities – Wesleyan University, Clark University, and most recently, the University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business, where he served as a major gifts officer.

“Dwayne’s energetic, positive outlook and relationship-building skills, along with his years of experience in working with alumni, will bring great success to the university during this time of exciting growth at UHCL,” says Associate Vice President for University Advancement Rhonda Thompson. “We are proud to have him on the University Advancement team.”

Busby’s goals for his time at UHCL include increasing not only donations, but ensuring that “University of Houston-Clear Lake” becomes a household university name throughout the state.

“Now that UHCL is a four-year university, I think it’s very important that we are well-known throughout our community, region and state,” says Busby. “Students should know that they can receive a top-rate education at a beautiful university in the Bay Area.”

During his time at Wesleyan University, Busby’s fundraising efforts resulted in $500,000 in donations for the Janina Montero scholarship and included soliciting constituents with a giving rate of more than $10,000. He also worked to cultivate alumni and other university friends during a five-year $250,000,000 capital campaign.

As a product of the Clear Creek Independent School District, Busby brings more than his knowledge and experience, but an understanding and familiarity with the Clear Lake community that will be invaluable in building relationships with community members and businesses. As the first graduating class of Clear Brook High School, Busby is also familiar with the transitioning of freshman and sophomore students into a traditionally upper-classmen roster.

“I feel like I’m coming full circle because we just welcomed our first incoming freshman class at UHCL this past fall, which is very similar to my experience at Clear Brook High School,” Busby says.

“Having that experience will allow me to go out in the community and speak on behalf of UHCL. Being a part of the community ties everything together.”

Busby holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University.
