Instead of going out this weekend, I decided to stay in and catch up on some TV shows; specifically Heroes Reborn.

Now, I know lot of people have mixed feelings about the show and especially the ending. Many say that the first season started out great but then lost its momentum in season two and kept gradually losing it until its unfortunate demise in season four. I’m not sure if writer Tim Kring knew the show would be cancelled after season four or if it was a spur of the moment thing. Nonetheless, Heroes is back and Kring has had a long time to think about what he wants to bring to the table.

In Heroes Reborn, we follow Noah Bennet aka Horn-Rimmed Glasses after his daughter has exposed the lives of Evos, evolved humans, to the world. It seems that after a big explosion Noah’s memory has been wiped (hmmm, I wonder who did that) and he is leading a different life.

We are introduced to some new Evo characters, such as Tommy Clarke, an awkward high school boy who can transport people to wherever he wants. After just the first episode, we become attached to Tommy because we have seen into his life. His bully became his friend, he gets the girl of his dreams, he escapes death and he vanquishes the bad guys. It also seems that he will have an interesting backstory, possibly an old Primatech patient.

We also go back to Tokyo and meet a young girl, named Miko Otomo, who can enter a videogame called “Evernow” that her father created. She learns she can enter the game using a sword and develops kick ass fighting skills once in the game. She is on the search for her father and learns to toggle between the real and simulated worlds. I am interested to see how this ties into the rest of the Heroes world, especially since Hiro had the exact same sword.

We meet a few more Evos such as a mysterious gambling bad guy and a LA crime fighting vigilante, but the most important Evo is Molly Walker – and she’s all grown up. If you don’t remember who she is, she is Matt Parkman’s adopted daughter who is the most powerful EVO of them all; she can locate other Evos.

Finally, we meet some new characters that do not posses special abilities, Luke and Joanne Collins. They are out to avenge their late son by killing all the Evos. Luke, played by Zachary Levi aka Chuck Bartowski, and his wife, Joanne are on the search for Evos and who knows how far they will go to get revenge.

Evos such as Matt Parkman, Hiro Nakamura, Mohinder Suresh and more are set to return but we won’t see the fan favorites such as Claire Bennet, Peter Petrelli and Sylar. I think that since Tim Kring had a long time to write this miniseries it should be pretty interesting to see how he decides to wrap everything up.

Stay tuned for Heroes on Thursdays on NBC.
