Super Bowl 2016 is almost here

The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will face each other in the 2016 Super Bowl Feb. 7, 2016. The game is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. central time at Levi Stadium in Santa Carla, CA. Both teams finished with the best records in their division, giving them the number one seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye. This year the halftime show will be hosted by Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars.

Now that the traditional information about the Super Bowl is over let’s take a look at some of the more interesting facts about Super Bowl 2016.

Every year the Super Bowl has some fun unique facts about the game that the common viewer might not know.

  • The age difference between Denver’s QB Peyton Manning and Carolina’s QB Cam Newton is 13 years and 48 days. This is the largest age difference for starting QB’s in Super Bowl history.
  • Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera played in Super Bowl 1986 30 years ago as a member of the Chicago Bears. The ’85 Bears were arguably the best defense in NFL history.
  • Cam Newton could be the first QB in the history of the NFL to win the Heisman, NCAA National Championship, NFL MVP, NJCAA National Football Championship, and Super Bowl.
  • Peyton Manning is the first QB in NFL history to lead multiple teams to the Super Bowl.
  • If you would have made a bet at the beginning of the season that the Super Bowl would be between the Panthers and Broncos, you would have 184-1 odds.
  • Five years ago the Panthers had the number one pick in the NFL Draft, the Broncos had number two. QB Cam Newton was number one, and Defensive Lineman Von Miller was number two.
  • This is the first Super Bowl in history where number-one drafted QB’s are facing each other. Manning was the number one draft pick in 1998 and Newton in 2011.

I know I’m excited for the Super Bowl this year. Personally, I would like the Panthers to win because a few years ago they were terrible and now they’re going to the biggest game in the sport. I would also like to see Peyton Manning win a Super Bowl and retire on a win. Maybe I’ll just watch the game and enjoy the outcome regardless of what happens.
