The Current

an introduction and mission statement

Of the many contentious topics in the last few months, none have grabbed the attention of Americans and people around the world as much as the rise in fake news, subjective coverage, and the introduction of alternative facts. These events from both the public and private sector have sown seeds of distrust in mainstream media, journalists and governments worldwide. With the introduction of The Current, I want to take a stand in the fight against sensationalism and stretched facts. Here you will find objectivity, bare facts made easy to digest, and close coverage of events that influence the lives of students.

The news I intend to cover will stretch from local to global, curated by myself and my editors. These will be as close to current news as I am able to cover, schedules abiding. The Current will be an ongoing project in providing you unbiased, apolitical review of events. I will give you differing perspectives to help flesh out the facts and give you the ability to see reality through the haze of rhetoric.

Nothing is more important to a democracy than a well-informed public, and it is my duty and privilege to keep you informed. Stay with me for weekly summaries of crucial news, as well as in depth articles that will highlight the events that I feel require more than the bare facts. The coverage will not lean to one side or the other on the political spectrum, and if any opinions are injected I will inform you of such. I am proud to offer you facts in this encroaching era of questionable reports and sketchy broadcasts. Just because the world seems intent on becoming post-fact does not mean I will go along with it.
