The UHCL Common Reader Committee announces its selection for the 2017-18 Academic Year

UHCL’s campus-wide Common Reader Committee is pleased to announce Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly as its Reader for the 2017-18 academic year. Shetterly’s historical account, with the full title

Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race, excavates the vital part of women scientists of color blazing trails and contributing crucial research throughout the 20th century.

Our Common Reader Program is open to all students, staff, faculty, and community of UHCL. We welcome all interested parties to attend our events that will include a screening of the 2016 film Hidden Figures with speakers from NASA, meet-and-greet for students and faculty and professional mentors, Black Community and Student Activist workshop, Speaker panel of women in STEM fields.
