SGA meeting – June 6, 2017

I. Call to order:

a. President Justin Murphy called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. and led everybody in singing happy birthday to Izuh Ikpeama

II. Approval of minutes:

a. A motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting was by Diveanne Martinez, and seconded by Gretchen Harding. The meetings were then approved.

III. Guest Speaker: None

IV. Fund Requests: None

V. Old Business: None

VI. Executive Council Reports:

a. Student Body President (Justin Murphy) – Justin updated everybody on his recent meeting with the new UH Systems Student Regent. He also went over the new SGA EC’s goals for the year and how they want SGA to shift towards a more inclusive environment.

b. Vice President Committee Coordinator (Diveanne Martinez) – Diveanne ran through all the shared governance committees available and informed everybody that committee applications were starting up again.

c. Vice President Administration (Izuh Ikpeama) –  Izuh ran through various housekeeping items such as how to fill out a fund request form and how to get your organization placed on the agenda.

VII. Student Organization Announcements:

a. Campus Activities Board – Joseph Riley announced that 2017-2018 CAB membership applications were available and everybody is welcome to apply.

VIII. General Announcements:

a. Student Life Office (Orgs & Activities) – Makayla Ellis announced the start of the 2017-2018 Student Organization Recognition Season and the various recognition workshop dates. Kate Rivardo announced and encouraged everybody to apply for the Hawk Spirit and Traditions Council. She then went on to encourage people to apply to be a part of the mascot program and to be apart of the Hunter the Hawk Flight Squad to help guide the mascot and help out with every mascot appearance.

b. Student Life Office (Movies) – Andrew Reitberger announced the beginning of the summer film and speaker series with “Alone in Berlin” and “Lost in Paris.”

IX. Closing Remarks:

The next SGA meeting will be held on July 11, 2017 in the SSCB Lecture Hall.  Please be present no later than 11:20am to sign in and gather important information so we can begin promptly at 11:30am. To schedule agenda time i.e. student organization announcements, staff and university office announcements, a completed request form must be submitted on the SGA website by 12:00 noon on July 5, 2017. Online forms are found at www.uhcl.edu/sga.
