EXPLAINER: Hold my beer, Zima is back

Drink 'zomething' nostalgic

A few nights ago, I walked into a local bar in Kemah and felt like I walked through a door to the past. Everyone was in flannels, chokers and drinking Zima.

If you don’t know, Zima is a citrus-flavored wine cooler that was all the rage in the ’90s, mainly because it was an alternative to beer. The drink hit shelves around 1993 and was finally pulled in 2008 – I had no idea it even stayed around that long. Apparently, it is still a big deal in Japan.

MillerCoors brought back Zima for a limited time and it plans to stay in the 21st Century until Labor Day weekend. Since other ’90s favorites are back, such as Crystal Pepsi and numerous TV shows, MillerCoors thought it would be a good time to release the alcoholic beverage for a limited time.

Check out the Storify below to see what the people think about Zima’s comeback.
