Hurricane Harvey donation centers in Clear Lake and the surrounding area
More than two weeks ago, Hurricane Harvey devastated the Gulf Coast of Texas. Rainstorms from the slow-moving, Force 5 hurricane affected thousands of people across the Houston area. Many lost power, vehicles and homes. At least 75 people lost their lives.
Now, with the storm over, many organizations and individuals have stepped up to help those in need. Some places are no longer taking clothing donations but are still looking for monetary donations, while others are accepting food donations.
For those wishing to help, whether through donations or volunteer work, the following list of local organizations that offer opportunities to help make a difference. This is a partial list. If you have suggestions for other places to volunteer and donate, please share them.
On Campus
- Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement in the Student Life office

- Friday, Sept. 22
- Join fellow students, faculty, and staff as they serve alongside the Houston Health Foundation and Target Hunger. On Friday, Sept. 22, from 12 to 5 p.m. they will assist with food distribution efforts at one the warehouses.
- Saturday, Sept 30
- Spend your morning with likeminded Hawks as they work with the Galveston Food Bank to sort and group donated food. They are planning to serve 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
