Cape Town approaches Day Zero

On April 12, Cape Town, South Africa will become the first major city to run out of water. Due to lengthy droughts and the city being considered a beacon for tourists, the water in the city’s dam reservoirs is running out. The city will shut off water when the water level in the reservoirs hits 13.5 percent. This is Cape Town’s Day Zero. The government is implementing water rations and the water shortage problem is causing many politicians and citizens to turn on each other.

Around the world, people are wondering what will happen to the city, the people and the world if Cape Town dries up? More importantly, how can a major city actually run out of water?
