CARTOON: Cape Town Dangerously Approaches Day Zero

Day Zero” for Capetown, South Africa approaches rapidly making it the first major city in the world to run out of drinking water. Capetown has about 400,000 residents and 2 million tourists every year. Once “Day Zero” is reached, residential water will only be available for pick up from 200 designated access points.

As climate change results in more extreme weather around the globe in this will likely be the first of many droughts in large cities. Last year alone, there were several high impact earthquakes in Mexico, unprecedented flooding in northeast India, record-breaking wildfires across California, and a hyperactive Atlantic Hurricane season that destroyed Texas, Puerto Rico, Florida and other regions.
