PLAYLIST: 10 songs for Valentine’s Day

Looking for some music to get you in the Valentine’s Day spirit? Then look no further as The Signal editors have compiled a Spotify playlist consisting of their favorite songs for the holiday. Check out the list and what made the editors select each song!

“Every Breath You Take” by The Police

“I know this song is about a stalker, but it is one of my all-time favorites. Remember that scene in “The Replacements” where Keanu kisses the girl? It makes you forget all about the whole Sting/Stalker situation. Or I don’t know, maybe this song suits all kinds of love for Valentine’s Day, from stalking to true love.”

“Doesn’t Really Matter” by Janet Jackson

This song off of the Nutty Professor II: The Klumps soundtrack, and one of my favorite Janet songs, talks about how it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about your relationship. What matters is each person’s love for one another.

“Until The End Of Time” by Justin Timberlake ft. Beyoncé

“This song gets me in the Valentine’s Day spirit because it’s a song about how even when the world is going crazy or even to an end, as long as you’ve got the love of that special someone, that’s enough “until the end of time.” Such a feeling with someone is sure to rest our weary hearts and relax our minds as we love that special someone until the end of time.”

“Primetime” by Janelle Monáe ft. Miguel

“Janelle Monae aka Cindi Mayweather and Miguel playing Sir Anthony Greendown both DELIVER in this beautiful ballad. I also love it because of how it fits in the Metropolis Saga and the lore Monae has built. Cindi Mayweather falling in love with Anthony was teased across previous albums and finally, we got that moment in a lyrical (and visual in the music video) fashion.”

“Surrender” by Natalie Taylor

“This song is the typical break-up – makeup songs. Most of the times, when we are in a relationship and we have a disagreement, we let out pride cloud our judgment and dictate our behavior. This song is about forgiving, surrendering to our pride, and letting our heart tell us what’s right. (Super cheesy, I know).”

“All My Life” by K-Ci & JoJo

“I remember listening to this song on the radio when I was young, and everyone would sing along to it because it is impossible not to sing along. I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a Valentine’s Day song, but it is a classic love song.”
– Liz Davis, editor-in-chief

“Amor Prohibido” by Selena

“Amor Prohibido” tells of a love that is considered forbidden by society because of the couple’s differing social classes. Selena conveys a story about a love that withstands what other people think or say.

“Remember The Time” by Michael Jackson

“Sometimes on Valentine’s Day, we aren’t able to have that special someone with us, but we think about someone who was once with us on a previous Valentine’s Day. Regardless, this amazing and jamming song is one that is sure to bring back memories of that special love one once had, or maybe memories of a love that still is. Either way, it’s awesome.”

“Gimme All Your Love” by Alabama Shakes

“I love the pacing (changes during the song) and soul in the song. Alabama Shakes are one of the most underrated bands in popular music and this will give you chills some parts and make you want to groove other parts. Not a lot of love songs will do that.”
– Alyssa Shotwell, online editor

“Naked” by James Arthur

“Women can be complicated. We believe we know it all and we can do it all by ourselves. Not true. Having someone to rely on, someone to do fun things with, and someone to travel with changes our life. There are still some good guys out there, so run get yours before they go out of stock :)”
