Next stop, ‘A Venture Through the Mediums’

Tiffany Ferris, an art and design major with a graphics concentration, has taken full advantage of UHCL’s APS (Artist Project Space) in order to learn the ins and outs of curating a show and now to create a solo exhibition.

Ferris began working in this space the fall 2017 semester when her and Jason Case curated the “UHCL Art Courses Exhibition.” That exhibition served as an opportunity for many students in the Art and Design program to be in a group exhibition. Additionally, it was used as a visual aid for visitors and others students as an example of the type of projects completed in a(n) ARTS, COMM or DMST courses.

Soon after Ferris and Case teamed up again early spring 2018 for their show “Understanding the PROCESS.” This show was less of a display of fine art and more of a peek behind the scenes of how ceramics, woodworking, printmaking and print advertisements are made.

In her final semester at UHCL, she embarked on creating her own solo show called “A Venture Through the Mediums” in which she arranges her work across the space to resemble an exploration. Each artwork is labeled to look like a passport showing title, dimensions, year, college it was created in, materials used and medium. Ferris encourages visitors to “grab your artistic passport March 5th through April 6th and travel across the art world with [her] as she explores various mediums.”

The APS is located in the Arbor North building.
Gallery viewing is open until April 6, 2018.
Gallery hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
