Nov. 18 – Costa Rica Summer Study Abroad Information Meeting
The UHCL Geography Program has announced the Summer 2012 Study Abroad Program to Costa Rica. The 12 day program includes a three-day visit to the Selva Verde Rainforest Lodge and Reserve and a nine day tour of the country. Travel dates for students are May 13 – 24 and July 15 – 26 for staff, faculty and the public.
Currently the last day to attend an information meeting about the Study Abroad program is from 12 – 1 p.m. on Nov. 18 in room 1218 of the Bayou building. More information meetings are planning to be added, but no official dates have been determined.
The cost of the trip is just under $3,000 which includes airfare, most ground transportation, admission to national parks and other sites and room and board. Scholarships are available to UHCL students; there are no perquisites to attend the trip and it is open to all majors.
Costa Rica’s rainforest management is world renowned which makes the experience great for geography, geology, environmental science, environmental management, anthropology, sociology, education and biology majors.
All majors will find the experience beneficial. A study done by The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) shows that studying abroad is a defining moment in a young person’s life and continues impact that person for years after the program.
