UHCL Faculty, Staff and Students:

Please mark your calendars to attend one of two presentations on Wednesday, March 28, at 9-10:30 a.m. or 3-4:30 p.m., in the Bayou Building, Room B2512, to get an advance preview of UH-Clear Lake’s new marketing campaign.

Richards/Carlberg, UHCL’s new advertising agency, has developed the university’s creative marketing approach based on an intensive one-day branding workshop held in December with the school deans, associate vice presidents and other senior administrators and staff members. The collaborative efforts of both the university’s senior leaders and the agency’s team resulted in a brand promise that provides a strategic foundation for all future decisions related to the UHCL brand.

Please make plans to attend and learn more about this exciting new campaign!

The Student Government Association Executive Council is pleased to announce that our fourth annual non-perishable food drive, “Fill It Up!” is well underway. SGA got involved in collecting food for the Clear Lake area in October of 2008, after Hurricane Ike left many in this area without food or shelter. Last year, we were able to collect over 4,000 items, which were donated to the St. Vincent De Paul and Interfaith Caring Ministries food pantries. This year, we are receiving even more inquires for donations from local food pantries. So, we need YOUR help to collect.

Collection starts now and will end April 17th. We need all the faculty, staff and student support we can get!

Currently, bins are placed in the following locations for collection:

- Student Life Office

- Alumni Office

- SSCB Entrance

- Patio Café Entrance

- Bayou Building Entrance (coming from SSCB)

- Outside SGA Office

- Outside the Bookstore

- Near the Police Department office

If you need a bin for your area of campus please don’t hesitate to ask!

Also, SGA is pleased to announce that the Student Organization who donates the most items will WIN a FREE tableat the Student Life Banquet on April 20th. For tallying purposes, please place your items in a bag with your club name inside of the bag, so we know who you are. Or, you can bring the items to SGA meetings every Tuesday at 11:30 in the SSCB Lecture Hall.

We are happy to hold this event, involving both our on-campus and off-campus communities. We hope that you can participate to the greatest extent possible and help to feed the hungry.

Thanks for your help!

UHCL is a smoking-restricted campus, where smoking is only permitted in certain designated smoking areas This smoking policy was approved by University Council on February 14, 2008.

UHCL is in the process of improving the signage and lessening sudents’ confusion over where it is safe to light up and where it is prohibited. Over the next few weeks, UHCL plans to have all the designated smoking areas marked. The campus also plans to label several non-smoking areas that can be easily mistaken as designated smoking areas.

Designated smoking areas are located at each building, providing smokers a safe area to smoke. Receptacles (ash trays) are available at all of the designated smoking areas for smokers to properly dispose of cigarettes. Smokers should refrain from moving those receptacles out of the smoking areas.

All designated smoking areas will be labeled with a sign like this:

Signs will also be added to all UHCL entrances reminding students, faculty and visitors that UHCL is a smoking-restricted campus.
