Nov. 14 – Global Expo
Take a trip around the world without leaving campus. The Global Expo is back from 12 – 5 p.m. Monday Nov. 14 in Atrium II of the Bayou Building. Enjoy exhibits created by UHCL organizations that represent all the different cultures and customs around the world. Some of the countries represented this year are China, Brazil, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Wales.

Nov. 10 – An Evening with Radmilla Cody
Join the Anthropology department and IISS tomorrow evening in the Forest Room at 7 p.m. to hear how Radmilla Cody overcame domestic violence and incarceration through song and Native American culture as part of Native American Heritage Month.

Radmilla Cody, a Native American award-winning singer, one of National Public Radio’s Great 50 Voices and an anti-domestic violence activist, will share her story of how she has experienced and overcome racism, domestic violence and personal struggles in her life.

Nov. 10 – An evening with Radmilla Cody
Internationally recognized traditional Navajo recording artist Radmilla Cody is coming to UHCL to share her talent as she uses her experiences to advocate strongly against the epidemic of gendered violence in Native American communities. The event is sponsored by the Anthropology and the Arts programs and by IISS and is supported by the Houston Endowment for the Arts. The event will take place Nov. 10 at 7pm in the Forest Room.

Nov. 1- Dia De Los Muertos
Celebrate this traditional Latin American holiday by viewing altars created by UHCL students and staff honoring the lives of those who have passed away. The event will be Nov. 1 from noon-5pm in Atrium 1. Enjoy snacks and other fun activities!
Dancing for Education \ IISS \ UHCL
IISS Dancing for Education Event
Join the Office of Intercultural and International Students Services as they host their first “Dancing for Education” fundraiser. The event’s goal is to raise funds for the celebrating Our Elders scholarship project. The event takes place Saturday, Oct. 22. Starting at 7 p.m. with free salsa classes and then free open dancing from 8-10:30 p.m. in Atrium 1 of the bayou building.
“It’s a fundraiser, but at the same time it’s a way to promote diversity through music, and then also promote health,” said Imelda Estrada, Program Assistant for IISS and Celebrating Our Elders. “The Celebrating Our Elders scholarship has been active at UHCL for 18 years and this fundraiser is a great way to benefit the scholarship.”
The event is open to students, faculty, staff and the community. There will be music provided by a DJ, food and a raffle. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Dia de los Muertos \ IISS \ UHCL
Oct. 24- Deadline to reserve a booth for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
The event is Nov. 1 from noon until 5 pm. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to honor their deceased loved ones with decorations, sweets, etc…Think of it as the opposite of mourning and a more of a celebration of that individual’s life.
