Nov. 16 – National Coming Out Day Guest Speaker
Join Unity and IISS Nov. 16 from 5 – 6 p.m. in UHCL’s Garden Room to listen to Bryan Hlavinka’s journey from out of the closet to a key activist in the LGBT community. Hlavinka also served as the Houston Pride Male Grand Marshall this year. Nov. 15 – UHCL Transgender Day of Remembrance
Tomorrow Nov. 15 is UHCL’s Transgender Day of Remembrance. The event will take place in Atrium II, honoring the members of the worldwide transgender community who have lost their lives and addressing the violence members of this community face. Nov. 10 & 11 – Vagina Monologues Auditions
Everyone is invited to stop by the Student Orgs. Room on Nov. 10 from 4-7pm to audition for the Vagina Monologues. No acting experience is necessary and all parts (full monologues, intros, and group pieces) are up for grabs! Anyone interested in a part MUST audition. There will be an additional audition day on Nov. 11 from 1-5pm. The more people the better, so get involved and have some fun!

Nov. 2- Transgender 101 Workshop
All Safe Zone Allies, Unity Members, and others interested in learning about how to better support members of the Transgender community are invited to bring their lunches for Transgender 101. The workshop will be hosted by Colt Meier, a UHCL practicum counselor will be introducing the the topic transgenderism. He will explain terms such as sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, and physical sex. Attendees will learn more about what it might be like to be a transgender student on campus and ways they can be supportive and sensitive to the needs of these students. The workshop will be held on Nov. 2 from noon-1pm in Bayou Building rm 2311.

Calling all Faculty & Staff: Become an Ally
The UHCL Safe Zone Program is a faculty and staff program designed to help create a safe and supportive environment for everyone in the UHCL community. The Safe Zone Program was specifically created to address the needs of UHCL community members who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender.
