The first comiCulture symposium at University of Houston-Clear Lake will begin Sept. 21. To complement the event, UHCL is putting on not one, but, two art exhibits through Oct. 17 to show off the local talent at both student and professional levels.

In a landscape speckled with drilling rigs, Houston is known for its oil production. Digging a little deeper, UHCL art students found the geology of the area to be as rich a form of inspiration as the oil itself.

Aspiring comic book writers and illustrators, mark your calendars. University of Houston-Clear Lake will be offering an opportunity of a lifetime for the students interested in becoming comic book/graphic novel writers and illustrators.

Geraldine Ondrizek engages diverse artistic media to portray, explore and enhance images of the genetic testing of human and animal cellular tissue as reproduced by geneticists and biologists. An exhibition of her work titled “Inner Space, Global Matter: Recording from the Structures Within | Geraldine Ondrizek – Works from 2008 through 2012” opens with a reception and panel discussion at University of Houston-Clear Lake on Monday, Nov. 19, 5–7 p.m.
UHCL has teamed up with artists from around the country for a photo exhibition entitled, Reconnecting Through Photography: Czech Republic-Slovak Republic, which explores the separation of the Czech and Slovak Republics through artistic pieces.
