Q&A with Everette Penn

Czech Republic invited Everette Penn, associate professor of criminology, to visit the University of West Bohemia with hopes of setting up a cultural exchange last summer. Penn talked about his trip and what he and the University of West Bohemia are trying to achieve in establishing this cultural exchange.

Leading the Way for New Students

When a semester ends a new one is set to begin, which means new students and New Student Orientation. The Student Life Office holds Orientation each semester to help new UHCL students find their way around campus, and learn more about on-campus organizations.

The Student Life Office counts on students to volunteer as Orientation Leaders to help make Orientation a success.

Dec. 7 – UHCL Police Swearing In Ceremony

Join the UHCL Police Department in welcoming three of its new officers at 9:30 a.m. in room 1219 of theUHCL Bayou Building. Cake and punch will be served at the ceremony.

Dec. 12 – New Patio Cafe Hours

Starting Monday Dec. 12 through Thursday Dec. 22 the Patio Cafe will be open from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and after Dec. 23 the cafe will be closed until Jan. 1.

Dec. 4 – UHCL Nature Trail Closed

The UHCL nature trail will be closed from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 4th so the UHCL Police can host the SARQUEST K-9 rescue unit and participate in K-9 training. There will be four to eight dogs with handlers conducting missing person or cadaver searches throughout the nature trail and woods. Controlled blood samples will be used, but not real cadavers. The dogs will be off the leash at times.

Dec. 17 – Volunteers for UHCL Commencement

UHCL Commencement is here again and approximately 30 volunteers are needed for each ceremony to help welcome families and friends to the venue, distribute programs, direct guests to seats, help student check-in, help student robing, help students who need special accommodations or other needs that may arise. A shuttle service will be available to assist in providing transportation to and from UHCL campus and the Reliant Arena for volunteers. Dec. 14 – UHCL Toys for Tots Donations

The UHCL Pearland Campus is helping collect toys for children in need throughout the Pearland community. To donate new unwrapped toys for the holidays you can place your donations in the box at the UHCL Pearland Campus Library or at the UHCL main campus in the Office of Human Resources (room 2537 in the Bayou Building). Donations will be accepted until Wednesday Dec. 14. at the main campus and through the week of Dec. 12 at the UHCL Pearland Campus. Dec. 9 & 10 – Rape Aggression Defense Classes

The UHCL Police Department will be providing a rape aggression defense class during the Winter Break. Classes will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Dec. 9 and 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Forest Room of the Bayou Building. The class is free and open to all women. Nov. 29 – UHCL Updates Immunization Site

UHCL has updated their immunization site (www.uhcl.edu/immunization) to provide the latest information concerning the state’s new immunization law. The site provides information for students without medical insurance, and will continue to be updated as more details are provided.
