VIDEO: Take a look inside Jason Case’s ‘Abstract Expressions, Op. 1’

Jason Case, art education major, started his journey as an artist after he traded his cleats for paint brushes and now loves what he does. Case creates artwork from mental images and brings it to life through time and dedication. Case, who hopes to one day teach art or sculpting at a university, has his latest creations on display at UHCL’s North Arbor building.

Gallery viewing is open until Feb. 26
Gallery hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Jason Makepeace, assistant professor of art, provided his thoughts on Jason Case’s exhibit and why members of the UHCL community should visit it.

QUESTION:

Why should people come to Jason Case’s exhibit, ‘Abstract Expressions, Op. 1?’

ANSWER:

“We started this gallery, maybe 4-5 years ago, used this hallway space that was underutilized and created a space for the students to have the opportunities to exhibit their work, so it’s really starting to take off. Students are really taking advantage of it, Jason is one of those students. With his professionalism, his depth of creativity within his work and the amount of work he has produced as a student in the BFA program here at UHCL. He took over this space we call the APSpace which is artist project space. His proposal got accepted by the art faculty, so he has this opportunity to install the whole show, but the reason why you should come see it is because of how professionally exhibited it is. All his work has a sense of finish. It displays an abstract expression from a very young creative mind, more like an emerging artist and the depth in which he combined ceramic sculptures and his paintings, it’s a really unique show, but it’s a very strong show.”
